Palin's Family in the Media
After reading the article Dr. Alderman posted, I must say I disagree. While I am all for women in politics and leading the country, I do believe family can affect how well one runs a country. I think that Palin deserves a the same amount sctrutiny as all other canidates, which is of course endless! I feel strongly towards women going for all their goals and doing things we once thought were never possible, but I feel women still have to make choices between career and family. As much as I want to beieve we have reached that point in society where women can do it all, we haven't. Being second in line to run the country and having five children seems like way too much to take on.

I agree that all candidates should be under the same microscope no matter the sex or race. I on the other hand see no reason that Sarah Palin should have to choose between career and family just because she is female. No one is asking why Barack Obama is running for the presidency when he has small kids as well. It is because he has a supportive wife and family that takes care of the home making and is backing him 100 percent. Sarah Palin’s husband and her family obviously have that role covered. Just because we feel that we personally would not be able to take on the United State with five kids does not mean that she isn’t capable of doing so.

I agree that because Sarah Palin is a mother of five and a woman does not mean she can not properly run or help run the country. However, with the other issues surrounding her family such as teenage pregnancy and unlawfully firing her brother in law Palin's character and ability to use her authority in the right way is of great concern. The teenage pregnancy of her daughter is an issue because as a part of the Whitehouse family her family is suppose to be an example. In addition if it is true that Palin fired her ex brother in law for personal reasons than how are we suppose to trust that she will use her vice presidential power correctly.

I also agree that Palin's gender and homelife/ family should not play a role when considering her for vice president. However, I agree with Erica concerning the wrongful use of her authority. It is not right to take advantage of certain power just because you obtain it. That is one issue that makes me question her ability to be vice president. If there are skeletons in her closet that affect her ablities as vice president, she needs to come clean to the American public about them. If she does become vice president, how can Americans securely trust in her authority if she continues to hide things?
